Hibbing Water Main Capital Improvement Plan

Project Status: Active

Existing Infrastructure: 1920’s installed cast iron water main & 20 known lead service lines.

Qualifying Factors: This project was selected due to the high concentration of lead service lines at these blocks. The water main serving these blocks are additionally expected to be more than a century old.

Scope of Work: Direct replacement of ~1,600 Linear Feet of water main with modern HPDE water main and replacement of lead service lines.

Cost: Preliminary Engineering Estimate of $3.5 million

  • Installation of watermain on the 2100 Block of 4^th Avenue W.
  • Removals on the 2000 block of 4^th Avenue W.
  • Watermain Connections on 4^th Avenue W and 22^nd Street.
  • Watermain connections on 4^th Avenue W and Grant & 19^th Street.

• Week of August 3^rd
  • Remainder of tree and stump removals on the 2000 and 2100 blocks of 4^th Avenue W.
  • Pavement, curb, and sidewalk removals on the 2000 and 2100 block of 4^th Avenue W.
  • Testing of temporary water system of 2000 and 2100 blocks of 4^th Avenue W and switching over residents to temporary water pending negative bacteria testing.
