The Commission, consisting of five members, shall be appointed by the City Council. Each member shall serve a three-year term and until the member’s successor is appointed and qualified. To be qualified, a member must take an oath that the member will faithfully and impartially perform the duties of the office. The Commission shall meet at least twice each month. Special meetings may be called by the Chairperson, and, in addition, a majority of the Commission may call a special meeting by giving two days’ written notice sent by first class mail to each member that did not join in the request for the special meeting. Three members of the Commission constitute a quorum.
The Hibbing Public Utilities Commission is hereby giving public notice of the regular meetings and working sessions of the Hibbing Public Utilities Commission for the Calendar Year 2025. Work sessions will generally be on the second Tuesday of the month, and regular meetings will generally be on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. The location of the meetings is at the Hibbing City Hall, 401 E. 21st St., Hibbing, MN.
HPU is required by its own Statute in MN Law to hold two meeting per month. HPU typically holds these on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in the following format. Please note that these schedules and formats are subject to change and when needed, these changes will be noticed as required. Regarding any changes to the Public notice will be provided three days in advance through HPU’s official publishing locations
Regular Meeting – A Commission Regular Meeting is a public meeting that will typically be held every fourth Tuesday of the month. The purpose of a Regular Meeting is for the Commission to take official action on items presented to them from HPU Staff. The official record of these meetings are the meeting minutes published in the Mesabi Tribune and http://www.hpuc.com. Regular Meetings are also typically televised and made available to the public through video sharing sites by Hibbing Public Access Television.
Working Session – A Commission Working Session is also a public meeting, typically held the second Tuesday of each month. The purpose of a Working Session is for members of the Commission and HPU staff to deliberate on upcoming decisions. No official action is taken during a Working Sessions. Occasionally, action will need to be taken at a scheduled Working Session. In this event, a Regular Meeting will be called and all Commission actions will be recorded via meeting minutes and published through Mesabi Tribune & http://www.hpuc.com.
